SOS-VERGEL: save lives, transform families
Instituto MandaVer provides support and new future perspectives for families in one of the poorest, most populated neighborhoods of Maceió. MandaVer offers cultural and sports activities for children and adolescents and professional training for youth and adults, helping them to develop skills while promoting social inclusion, citizenship, employment and income generation.
What will your support help make possible?
With your donation, Manda Ver will provide food and hygiene kits to 2,500 families, including nutritional supplements for kids, as a means to fight hunger and stop the spread of COVID-19.
How will your donation make a difference?
The Vergel community lives directly from seafood fishing, tourism and trash picking. They live in a vulnerable state, residing in cardboard shacks without running water, which makes it impossible for them to follow basic World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. Because of the pandemic, thousands of families who live in informal settlements - many of whom are in the at-risk group - have lost their sources of income and will be both at risk of infection and affected by the pandemic in the short and long-term.
The organization will use the amount raised to help 2,500 families who live in precarious housing conditions without basic sanitation or garbage collection in the Vergel do Lago neighborhood.
